About Botox Injections for Hyperhidrosis

Botox is a neurotoxin made from the microbes that cause botulism. It is safe when used appropriately by a medical professional, and FDA-approved for use as an injectable treatment for peoople who sweat excessively from their armpits — a condition known as hyperhidrosis.

While most well known as a cosmetic treatment, The Morrison Clinic™ — in accordance with science and study — also uses Botox to treat neuromuscular conditions such as refractory migraines and muscle spasms, among others.

There is evidence that Botox can reduce armpit sweat production by more than 50 percent for at least six months. Our South Florida neurousurgery clinic can safely administer this treatment rapidly for your convenience.

How is an Injection for Hyperhidrosis performed?

Peforming this treatment procedure itself is as straightforward and rapid as many other types of injections you receive. The underarm area injection site is cleaned and prepared before a syringe of Botox is injected into it.

Currently, the underarm is the only location that Botox injections to treat hyperhidrosis has been approved for.

Am I a Candidate for Injections for Hyperhidrosis?

You may be a candidate for Botox injections to treat hyperhidrosis if your sweating fails to improve after the use of prescription antiperspirants. Botox is approved by the U.S. Food and Drug Administration (FDA) to treat excessive sweating (hyperhidrosis) of the underarms. This treatment approach may also be appropriate to reduce sweating in your hands, feet, and face.

However, there is a higher risk of side effect and pain if the following areas are also treated with Botox:

  1. Hands.
  2. Feet.
  3. Under the breasts.
  4. Head.
  5. Face.

How Botox Injections Resolve Hyperhidrosis

The benefit of this treatment is that it can reduce, and in most cases stop, the sweat produced in your armpits for up to 6 months. This can improve your confidence and social life as you no longer have to worry about the smell, sweat marks on your clothes or having to carry a spare top around with you. Most people find that they can stop using deodorants completely whilst having this treatment.

Our specialized neurosurgeons often recommend and perform Botox Injections to treat Hyperhidrosis.

Hyperhidrosis Botox Injection Aftercare & Positive Recovery

You should be able to go home immediately after your procedure. Generally, little aftercare is needed. You may feel tender near or at the injection site for a few days.

About 2 weeks after your first treatment, and once the Botox takes full effect, it is likely you will be encouraged to follow-up with our neurosurgery office. You may need an additional procedure to treat any missed spots.

Doctors often recommend avoiding deodorant or products with perfume under your arms for about 12 to 24 hours to avoid irritation. Avoiding intense exercise and hot baths for 1 to 2 days may also help.

Immediately following surgery, I was standing and walking pain free. I am enjoying my life again and have Dr. Morrison to thank!
