Dr. Simon Morr, MD, is a highly skilled neurosurgeon with dual training in both neurosurgical and orthopedic spine surgery. He specializes in providing comprehensive microscopic neurosurgical and reconstructive orthopedic spinal care. His expertise encompasses advanced degenerative conditions, tumors, infections, traumatic fractures, and complex spinal deformities such as kyphosis and scoliosis. Dr. Morr is particularly interested in disorders of the cranio-cervical junction and base of the skull, including Chiari malformation, basilar invagination, and Syringomyelia. Additionally, he treats various brain conditions, including tumors and trauma.

Experience

Dr. Morr’s extensive experience began as Chief Resident of the neurosurgery service, after which he was invited to stay on as an Assistant Professor of Neurosurgery at the University at Buffalo. There, he focused on spine surgery, brain trauma, and brain tumors. He was awarded a fellowship by the North American spine division of the AO Foundation, a prestigious orthopedic research and education organization founded in Switzerland in 1958.

Returning to his hometown of New York City, Dr. Morr received further fellowship training in orthopedic complex spinal deformity and scoliosis surgery at Columbia University. Under the mentorship of world-renowned orthopedic and neurosurgical spine surgeons, he honed his skills and was subsequently promoted to Assistant Professor of Neurosurgery at Columbia University Medical Center. During his tenure, he performed complex surgeries and trained post-doctoral fellows and residents in Columbia University’s acclaimed neurosurgical and orthopedic programs.

In early 2022, Dr. Morr established his own practice to expand his reach city- and nationwide. This new, flexible platform aims to provide patients with a convenient, streamlined, and personalized experience. The practice collaborates with hospitals, large practices, and individual physicians, leveraging multidisciplinary and interinstitutional relationships to optimize patient care.

Expertise

Dr. Morr advocates for minimally invasive and conservative treatments whenever possible. However, he often treats patients requiring extensive revision and reconstruction after previous surgeries. He is proficient in advanced robotic and navigated techniques, as well as radiosurgery, offering “knifeless surgery” when it is the best option for the patient.
